Western Historian members, and (we hope) interested parties, please consider this e-mail as a “save the date” for our 2020 meeting, which will occur in Murray, Kentucky, Larry Daniel’s old stomping grounds, and conveniently close to Fort Donelson, the campaign for which will be the prime subject matter of our discussions.
The date, as fixed at our 2019 meeting in Chattanooga, is May 28-30, which is the week AFTER Memorial Day. Our usual schedule is a dinner on Thursday night, discussion sessions on Friday, followed by dinner, and a battlefield tour on Saturday.
Larry will be attending to the details, and we should have a initial itinerary within a month or so.
As always, we encourage historians with an interest in the Civil War Western Theater to join and attend. Remember that membership is limited to those who have published books or articles on the subject with mainline journals and publishers., although we encourage graduate students with an interest in the subject as well. Membership is a one time fee of $100, which goes to offset some of the expenses of our meetings.
Best,
Sam Elliott

Friends, to follow up on the e-mail below (with some corrected e-mail addresses), the schedule for the 2020 Western Historians meeting and accommodations information follows:
We have fifteen rooms available for Thursday night May 28 and Friday night May 29 at the Hampton Inn, in Murray, Kentucky. The cost is $94 per room. The code is LDCWH. Reservations for the group price need to be made by May 24. The motel is offering us their meeting room for no expense. The reservation link for that property:
Sorry I couldn’t make that neater, but my computer skills are uncertain.
Currently, we anticipate the usual schedule format:
Thursday Dinner, May 28, 7:00
Friday, May 29 (All sessions at the Hampton)
Session 1: Business Meeting 9:00-9:30
Session 2: 9:45-11:30 First Discussion Group
Lunch: 11:45-1:45 (includes group photo)
Session 3: Second Discussion Group 1:45-3:15
Session 4: 3:30-5:00 Current State of Western Theater Historiography
Friday night Dinner 7:00
Saturday: Participants are free to tour Fort Donelson, 23 miles from Murray.
Either Larry or I will be in touch with some of you relative to moderating our two general discussions, which in keeping with past practice will center in part on the Ft. Henry/Donelson campaign. Larry will, as he has in the past, moderate the final session.
Please keep us in the loop as you make your plans, so we can know who expects to attend.
Cordially,
--

Sam – unfortunately, my wife and I will not be able to make it this year due to some health issues.
Best to all

It will. Just need a period of time for some surgery and recovery where we can’t travel. Thanks.
