It took a couple of days of tinkering, but I figured out why I wasn't seeing any beacons from WEBERST going out via RF. The SSID was one character too long.
KE7BAP found the following on page 22 of the APRS spec (can be found at
http://www.aprs.org/doc/APRS101.PDF ):
Destination Address --- This field can contain an APRS destination callsign or APRS data. APRS data is encoded to ensure that the field conforms to the standard AX.25 callsign format (i.e. 6 alphanumeric characters plus SSID). If the SSID is non-zero, it specifies a generic APRS digipeater path.
As Dr. Sohl points out, WSU is too generic; and as much as some folks have tried, WEBERU hasn't caught on. Leaving WEBER as my first choice of callsigns for the digi. I know that it is also a bit generic locally as there are many things "Weber," but I think that it is still the best choice for a descriptive callsign.
