Hey Package,

We're on the verge of the meat of our season. Between March 15th and April 20th we will have 3 open tournaments, and as of right now, we have an official USA Ultimate roster of 11 people. This means that for Sectionals we will only be allowed to take at most 12 or 13 guys. Those 12-13 guys are going to have a hard weekend with not very many subs. It is with that in mind, that we are going to start a workout/conditioning regiment starting the week after spring break. We will be doing one stairs workout and one Rec workout each week on top of practice. I will run the stairs workout, and I'd like Raju or Jace (or both) to organize a lifting/strength workout as well. One of each a week. We're gonna need to find concrete times where we can do this as a team.

Not only will this improve our chances of winning, but we'll also get super good looking doing it. Downside? Nahhh

Also, as an added bonus, I will be doing a track workout once or twice a week. Track workouts for endurance. That doesn't mean we are running mile repeats. The most you'll run is 400m (one lap) before taking a break. I'll also have different variants based on your fitness level. And I'll be starting those ASAP. I'll give a 12 hour notice if I'm doing one!

Raju has a sweet ladder we should use for footwork, which will help with cutting and changing direction. Our man defense will be the best it's ever been!

TL;DR:
Stairs for explosiveness/conditioning (speed and cutting)
Lifting (and other gym activities) for strength/explosiveness (applies to every physical aspect in ultimate)
Track workouts for increasing our stamina during long add points and multiple games back to back to back.

Girls are more than welcome to come and I highly encourage everyone to participate in these as often as you can! It's time we step up and get down to business, kinda like that Mulan song.

10-4 over and out.
Cory

With respect, no one should be entering the gym now if they haven't been all season. You can't become stronger this late in the season if we plan on adding stairs and track workouts. It would be much better to focus on agility and explosiveness without weights for most people. This comes from working out with a coach who skied for the US in college. The chance for people gaining strength in the short months we have left isn't enough to cover the cost of potential damage done by not having an appropriate diet or knowledge of lifting. It is however something to be done in the pre-season as most high level athletes do.

Food for thought on people entering the gym. I'd be happy to help, but if we want to put time towards becoming more physical this late in the season there are better alternatives. That being said, I still lift and will give diet and lifting advice to anyone willing to listen and fully cooperate.

Well I guess I be seeing pretty much everyone at stair and track workouts!
