Since graduating from WSU, I realized that teaching isn't my passion.
Not that I don't love the subject matter and the kids, but the thought
of spending 180 days a year for the next 30 years in front of a
classroom didn't thrill me. Instead, I went back to school.
I'm just finishing my second year at the Art Institute of Portland.
I'm working on my BFA (Bachelor's of Fine Arts) in Interior Design.
Eventually, I'll get my Master's in Architecture. A far cry from a
History Education degree. If everything goes according to plan, I'll
be graduating sometime between December 08 and March 09. After that,
I'll be working at a local architecture and design firm.
As for my personal life, I'm living in a one-bedroom apartment with no
roommates except my cat, Alice. I'm loving it. I work 40 hours a
week and go to school 30 hours a week, so I really don't have time to
be lonely. Another reason I'm not lonely is my boyfriend of over a
year, Erik.
Erik is 30 and a senior software engineer at AirAdvice, a Portland
company that monitors and analyzes building performance and indoor
environment and air quality. My parents love him and are ecstatic
that I've finally found someone. And I feel the same way. So look
for wedding invitations sometime after I graduate.
Anyway, if any of you happen to be down in Vancouver or Portland, I'd
love to hear from you. I always have time for XA alumni and while I
don't have an extra bedroom, I do have a futon and an air mattress
that any of you are welcome to use.
