Hi everyone,
Wanted to say thank you to everyone that helped make the talk happen
today. Pizzas were delivered on time, no projector issues, and the
talk was informative and it seemed like the students that attended
were interested and got something out of it.
Attendance was about 10 students.
Mr. Holmes and Mr. Amos from NetApp were both friendly and stayed
after the talk to answer individual questions and take resumes from
students interested in applying. They were very gracious, and seemed
like they enjoyed the chance to meet students.
I also used the time to make a case for joining ACM, and one student
is planning to attend next Monday.
As a bonus, Mr. Holmes and Mr. Amos said they would be in regular
contact with any news about NetApp, including hiring announcements or
other public talks on WSU campus. I'll post that information on the
ACM website, and think it would be nice to add a "jobs" page.
As a side note, I learned today from the WSU media services that
having someone come unlock the control box for the projector in a
classroom incurs a $98 per day usage fee. In the future, it would be
best if we pre-arrange to have a faculty member unlock the control box
for us. I'd also suggest if possible that we try to always reserve a
room in Jabara, as that is where Mr. Matrow is, and would probably
make for the easiest / most secure way of using the projector in a
classroom without the hassle of dealing with WSU's admin department.
As helpful as they are, it is wild to me that $98 is charged for using
a projector for 1 hour.
Thanks again,
Rick
