All: Thanks to everyone who came to our show featuring the Al-Andalus Ensemble (
http://www.andalus.com/) on April 11. We'd love to hear any feedback on the show, or even recommendations for future events. We're in the process of confirming the next couple of events, and will have more details soon.
We also want to let you know of another upcoming sacred event in our area. We just heard about this May 3 Sacred Harp/Shape Note Singing event from one of the organizers who brought this unique singing form to our festival in 2008.
I'm one of the instigators of the
Olympia shape-note singing community, and I also teach the chorus class
at Evergreen. We sang at the Sacred Music Festival a couple of years
ago, as you may recall.
(FYI:shape-note music, an American tradition of a capella hymn singing, is also called Sacred Harp singing after the title of its best known songbook.)
The Evergreen Singers and the greater
Olympia shape-note singing community are hosting an All-Day Singing
from The Sacred Harp on the Evergreen campus on Sunday, May 23. I
thought you might want to know about it, and perhaps even list it as an
event related to the Sacred Music Festival.
The All-Day Singing will be participatory--there's no audience--and free.
Attached is a PDF with more info.
Interfaithfully yours,
Scott
