The 2008 World Sacred Music Festival was held on Saturday, and it was truly an inspirational event. From the powerful opening by the multitalented Che-oke'-ten to the closing by Persian trio Shabava and everything between, festival-goers and performers alike seemed to be enjoying themselves and making positive connections.

I was particularly inspired by the interactive workshops. It was powerful to see a room full of people doing Sufi dance and chant led by the Mevlevi Order of Seattle. And the Shape Note singers just wouldn't stop -- even after their workshop, I kept coming around corners and finding small groups of them singing up a storm.

More reports, feedback, and photos of this year's festival will be on the festival website soon. But thanks to everyone who participated in making this happen!

We'll be meeting soon to start planning the 2009 festival, and we'll make an announcement when we have the date, and when the artist application is available.

Also, just received this announcement, which may be of interest to some...

There are still openings for The Puyallup Spring Fair's Choir and Ensemble
Competition scheduled for April 18-19, 2008 at the Showplace Stage. $2000 in
cash prizes will be awarded during the Finals. This is a family-friendly,
community event open to all choirs and ensembles in Washington State, including
churches, schools, colleges, and community groups in 6 categories:
classical/sacred, youth, ethnic, gospel, contemporary, and variety (jazz,
barbershop, country, etc.). Go to www.choircontest.com for more information or
to signup on line.

All the best,

Scott
