Dear WSMF-interested artists:

We're still expecting applications from a number of you, so I wanted to shoot off a quick email reminder. The deadline to apply for the 2009 World Sacred Music Festival (WSMF) is October 15. So now that you're wrapping up that summer tour or vacation, please take a few minutes to complete and send in your application.

You'll find the application form on the festival website, www.olysacredmusic.org

Recently I've been receiving a large number of email inquiries about the festival, some with common questions. We'll have to add a FAQ to the WSMF website addressing some of these, but for now here are a few answers you might find enlightening.

* The best first step if you're interested in performing is to fill out an artist application, found on the festival website (www.olysacredmusic.org). We cannot give you an informed answer about our interest in your music/dance without the completed application and the accompanying audio/video sample.

* The WSMF is a volunteer-run, nonprofit festival with a modest budget. Many of our performers are from Western Washington and volunteer their performances and workshops (though they do get 90% of their CD sales at the festival and our enormous gratitude and support). We have limited funds available to bring in a few groups from farther away, and these are usually from within the USA or Canada.  The festival appreciates any efforts to minimize costs, including willingness to stay at private homes.

* As my time allows, I'm also happy to help festival performers connect with other venues in Western Washington to create a mini-tour and perhaps spread out your travel expenses among several performances.

* If you would like to perform at the festival but cannot donate your performance, please do fill out the application, and include your financial needs with the application.

* We presently do not have funds available to support travel from overseas. If we do contract with overseas performers, we will of course provide the appropriate invitation letters. However, we do not presently have the resources to help performers obtain visas or other travel documents. For 2009, we likely will not include overseas-based performers unless they already plan on being on tour in the USA during the time of the festival, and have the bulk of their expenses covered by other means.

* The WSMF happens once each year (next on 7 March 2009). We do not produce performances at other times of the year, with the occasional exception of fundraising concerts/events. If you would like to do a show to help raise funds for the festival, we'd be happy to talk!

If you have other questions, don't hesitate to be in touch. We're looking forward to an inspiring 2009 festival -- our 5th annual!

Cheers,
Scott
