Applied Fuzzy Logic Research at Ford

Fuzzy logic and soft computing are already a part of the main
automotive
engineering technologies. While fuzzy theory is still developing,
the
number of successful soft computing-based products and applications
is
growing. In the majority of such products, fuzzy logic and soft
computing are used to improve and/or complement the performance of
conventional (hard) computing control, diagnosis, pattern
recognition,
signal processing, knowledge based algorithms and systems.
Ford Motor Company is one of the major industrial contributors to the
development and application of soft computing technologies. In this
talk we review some of the trends in the area of applied fuzzy logic
research referring to selected applications at Ford that exemplify
those
trends.
