Dear Wa DOT:

Let's be frank, you're not all you make yourself out to be. Your
agency profile says: "WSDOT values its employees, challenges them to
continuously improve the way we do business, to meet and exceed the
needs of our customers, and to carry out their duties in an ethical
manner. WSDOT is a multi-modal transportation agency in one of the
fastest growing areas of the country, responsible for planning,
building and operating a complex highway system in addition to
operating a large ferry system and freight and passenger rail system."

So why all the traffic jams? Why all the beauracracy? Why have I
heard nothing about the job I applied for? Sure, maybe you got a lot
of applications coming in, but that doesn't mean that I don't deserve
a phone call or at least an email so I can stop wasting my time and my
energy on wundering if I got a chance or not. Sorry to quote the song
but all I am asking for is a little respect.

Dear Actively,

I will be frank with you. You are absolutely right! Not only do you
deserve respect, we could be better. Change is a good thing when it's
calculated and done right. Little by little we are making
improvements to our Recruitment unit. Soon, we will be unveiling a
new (easier to use and more informational) Employment page, we're
trying out innovative ways to connect to people (like this blog) and
we're always open for recommendations.

Although I am not sure why you never heard back about a job, I can
assure you that this is not a common practice for us. We try to make
sure that all applicants receive an email if they are not chosen for
an interview and all interviewees receive a phone call if they were
not selected. Please let me know if this happens again.

I would like to thank you for being honest with us. Your criticism
and everyone elses' is constructive for us. We want to know what our
downfalls are so that we can improve. Feel free to keep em coming.

Michaela

Rock on actively! It's an understatement to say that you're not all
you make yourself out to be. I have been on the http://careers.wa.gov/
website hundreds of times, you know how many times I been called for
an internview? ZERO

Your site says user friendly but when I call in to ask for help, ain't
nobody who can help me. This one lady agreed with me that it's so
bad. I spent 45 minutes makeing that profile and then I got booted
out of the system and my password doesn't work. I tried getting a new
one, but the security it to hard. Aint no way Im gonna remember a
password like that. Whats up with that? This one time, I applied for
a job at the corrections office, made sure I did it all perfect,
submitted everthing nice, spent another 25 minutes formatting my cover
letter because certain things done past over right, and then when I
checked my status it said my application was complete. I tried
calling over to them and they told me I msised some supplemental
thing? WTF? I didnt see nothing. So then I ask them if I can send
that in. It's an open continuous job right, just add it to my
application. NOPE. Said my application was incomplete and that's
that because the system cannot add anything new to a application thats
already submitted. If I wanted, i could reapply. You think Im gonna
waste another hour to apply. No Way.
You say you want suggestions, well here is my suggestion START OVER.
I dont think theres much to be done for improvement, its a lost coss.
