Subject: SSB 5549 Needs your help
Hello WSCH Members!
30 Day Eviction Notice Bill---Needs your help!
Senator Kohl-Welles has pulled SSB 5549 (see attached) to the Senate floor, making it eligible for floor passage. This is the measure that extends from 20 to 30 days the amount of notice a month-to-month tenant must be given for an eviction without cause.
While we were not able to move the original bill with the 60 day notice requirement, we have lengthened the notice from 20 to 30 days. This modest improvement in the law will give tenants more time to find replacement housing and provide them with additional security or tenure in their homes. It is also an important first step towards greater protections in the future.
(1) Let your senator know SSB 5549 (30 Day No-Cause Eviction Notice Bill) is ready for a floor vote and ask if he/she would please vote "yes."
(2) Also, please ask them to OPPOSE any amendment that would allow termination notices to take effect on any day of the month, rather than at the end of the agreed upon monthly rental period.
(3) EMAIL US --- If your Senator responds with a definite "yes" or "no" as to whether he/she supports the bill let us know.
QUESTIONS? Senators can be referred to Seth Dawson for additional information.
