Subject: Senate McKinney Letter Results
Dear McKinney Campaign Advocates,
I wanted to share some GREAT news with you: we got an impressive 29 senators to join the sign-on letter being circulated by Senators Reed (D-RI), Snowe (R-ME), and Schumer (D-NY) in support of robust funding for HUD’s McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants in FY 2012. Last year’s letter only got 28 signatures. So, despite the tight fiscal pressure, senators really stepped up (thanks to you!) to show their support for this critical program for our most vulnerable citizens.
You should be REALLY proud of these results! Nearly one-third of the U.S. Senate weighed in in support of funding for HUD’s McKinney-Vento programs – thanks to YOUR hard work through meetings, calls, and emails. Thank you!!
The final, bipartisan list of senators who signed on is available here: http://www.endhomelessness.org/content/article/detail/4045.
We still need to do a bit more in the next week…
Call your senators’ Washington, DC offices and ask to speak to the person who handles housing issues.
1. If your senator joined the letter, tell him/her how GRATEFUL you are that the senator joined the letter in support of McKinney-Vento funding.
2. If your senator did NOT join the letter, ask if his/her boss would be willing to send their OWN, individual letter in support of McKinney-Vento funding.
3. Let us know which offices you contacted.
Thanks for all of your hard work – once again, we’ve seen how effective you are at showing Congress how important McKinney-Vento programs are to your community.
Thanks!
Amanda
