Subject: Senate McKinney Sign-On Letter - Help Needed!!!

Dear McKinney Campaign Advocates,

Senators Jack Reed (D-RI), Olympia Snowe (R-ME), and Charles Schumer (D-NY) are circulating a sign-on letter to their colleagues in the Senate. The letter asks the Senate HUD Appropriations Subcommittee leaders to “robustly support” funding for HUD’s McKinney-Vento programs as they draft their FY 2012 funding bill. The bill also requests robust funding for the HUD – VA Supportive Housing (VASH) program.

However, the deadline for senators to join the letter is THIS WEEK! So, we need YOUR help to contact your senators’ offices and ask them to join the letter. An impressive 16 senators have already joined, but we need to get A LOT more to demonstrate what strong support HUD’s McKinney-Vento program has and why it should receive $2.4 billion in FY 2012.

Here’s what you can do:

  1. Find out RIGHT NOW if your senators have already joined the letter by clicking here: http://www.endhomelessness.org/content/article/detail/4045.
  2. Then, call your senators’ Washington, DC offices and ask to speak to the person who handles housing issues.
    1. If they HAVE joined the letter, THANK them for joining.
    2. If they have NOT joined yet, ask them to have their boss join the Reed-Snowe-Schumer letter THIS WEEK.

They can contact Andrew Odgren (andrew...@reed.senate.gov) in Senator Reed’s office or Henry Hanscom (henry_...@snowe.senate.gov) in Senator Snowe’s office to join.

  1. Let us know which offices you contacted and what they said by emailing me at akrus...@naeh.org.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are in Washington, DC for the Alliance’s annual conference this week, join Capitol Hill Day and mention the letter during your meetings with senate offices (instead of calling them). Ask me if you need more information on how to get involved.

FY 2012 House HUD Funding Bill

Also, the House HUD Appropriations Subcommittee release of its FY 2012 funding bill – originally scheduled for this week – has been postponed. No new date has been announced, though we will keep you posted when we learn more.

As always, let me know if you have any questions. Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks!

Amanda
