Greetings Christine,

Please email Congressman Norm Dicks today to ask him to stand up for housing and homelessness program funding in what looks like the last round of FY 2011 budget negotiations.

House and Senate leaders appeared to reach a provisionary deal late Wednesday evening regarding FY 2011 appropriations. They have tentatively agreed to cut about $33 billion in FY 2011 from federal discretionary programs, which includes the HUD budget.

As a result, House and Senate appropriators, with Norm Dicks among their leaders,  are now negotiating the details of a final FY 2011 appropriations bill with program-specific funding proposals, including HUD programs.

The continuing resolution funding the government expires next Friday, April 8.  It is still possible that negotiations between the House and Senate might break down over the next several days, but this may be our final opportunity to affect FY 2011 funding.  This is what we’ve been working toward!

Send a message to Representative Dicks to support full funding for housing and homelessness programs!

Please email Representative Dicks’s DC office today,

or call (202) 225-5916.

If you call, ask to speak to Hart Edmonson, who handles housing issues.

The Housing Alliance's partners recommend the following funding levels:

  • Tenant-based and Project-Based Rental Assistance (recommended level: 18.5 billion for Tenant-based, 9.282 billion for Project-based)
  • Public Housing Capital Fund (2.5 billion) and Operations Fund (4.6 billion)
  • Homeless Assistance Grants  ($2.2 billion)
  • Community Development Fund (4.23 billion)
  • Section 202 Housing for the Elderly (825 million) and Section 811 Housing for Persons with Disabilities ($300 million)

It’s VERY important that Congressman Dicks, as the ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, hear from as many people as possible on this important issue in the next two days. Please email or call right away, and please ask your colleagues, networks, and friends to call, too.

The funding level passed for FY 2011 will set the baseline for budgets for years to come.  Now is your chance to weigh in on this issue at a critical moment.

Take a minute to send this email today!

Please contact Alouise Urness, Federal Policy Coordinator, with any questions or to share any feedback.

Count on the Housing Alliance to continue to keep you informed on the developments and opportunities for action on both the state and federal budgets and thank you for standing up.

Sincerely,

The Housing Alliance Team
Rachael, Michele, Alouise, Natalia, and Moque
