Very cheap way to build a toy sailboat

I came across this article in a magazine which suggests building a boat platform out of Knex and plastic bottles, and controlling it with a rudder servo driven directly by a Raspberry Pi:

I imagine it could only carry a tiny sail without capsizing, because it doesn't have a keel, but it might be interesting as a super cheap platform to experiment with, or for sailing on very shallow water.
