For 2018, let's try for more humor

    Look back at 2017's emails, and weep for how much anger, fear, hatred, misogyny, racism, xenophobia, and abject TERROR they contained. 

 

    Then look back over a few decades and reflect on how humor, from Charlie Chaplin's social commentary films from the Little Tramp on, to Cheech & Chong's drug commentaries, to Mort Saul, Lenny Bruce and George Carlin, and on and on, helped turn conservative tides. 

 

    Not every attempt at humor works.  But we need to recognize how hard it is for royalists like Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell and of course the Donald to continue to be taken seriously, once significant portions of the population are laughing at them.  We've known this since before the story of the Emperor's New Clothes was first published. 

 

    And NOTICE how mockery makes the Donald fly into a tizzy.  And how his sicophants, like Michael Master, Neil Coward Reinhardt and Paul Ebeling get furious and sink to ad hominem attacks when their constant LYING gets ridiculed. 

 

    In spite of (or perhaps in response to) our justified anger at their attempts to destroy the U.S. and replace it with a corporate oligarchy, we should make more consistent efforts to include humor in our 2018 attacks on illogic, terror, and bigotry.  That picture of Republican Logic on the Titanic was a good, concise example of using bleak humor to tell a real truth.
