Theproblem is that i dont have software copy of eLicenser at mysteinberg account and i lost my cubase activation key to redeem it. One day it just dissapeared and Cubase started to show me the message that i dont have it and it will use USB dongle to start. In steinberg eLicense control center i have USB eLicense info and codes but there is no software one, so if you say that v13 doesnt use dongle, than i guess i will not able to start it.

Not exactly. Your USB-eLicenser Cubase license will be converted to a Seinberg Licensing license for Cubase Pro 13. This will use the Steinberg Activation Manager instead of the eLicenser Control Center and allow you to run 13 (or 12) without a dongle. If you plug in your USB-eLicenser you can run 11 or earlier Cubase versions.

I contacted support. i had to take the 25 digit number I was emailed, log into a steinberg account, register that number which then gave me a 28 digit number that i had to enter into the elicenser. that worked.

Why does Steinberg insist on trying to force feed a dead horse? I never had any problems with it AFTER I finally got it to work. I hate it! And God help you if you lose your dongle. Get your credit card out.

Hello,

I have for the same problem in Mac Silicon computer.

I have the same problem. Cubase 13pro gives me the same error "The currently installed version of the eLicenser Control (eLC) software is too old.

This is news that we are pretty sure all Steinberg Cubase users will be happy about. The eLicenser dongle will soon be history in 2025! And the problems that this much-maligned copy protection still causes on many computer systems to this day will finally be a thing of the past.

Moreover, when major updates to Cubase are released, the user experience has sometimes been less than stellar on release day. The eLicenser server that authorizes the new version has been known to fail due to the deluge of people accessing it.

This is great news ,i have been using cubase since the late 90s Cubasis and the main issues i have had have been related to usb drop outs i value the software know and plan to use it more in a portable setup.

Never had a problem with cubase dongles. I have worked in 4 college depts with cubase as main saw. Always put the dongle on an extension usb lead and secured it inside the pc case. The dongle itself has never been a problem in my experience. What has been the problem has been registering the dongles. Steinberg has appalling customer services. Usually sorted after much going and froing but in a college/ university environment I could welcome an easier alternative. Using it in my own studio has never been a problem. Worked fine, registered ok and never any problems but my Saw is only used for cubase and nothing else.

I personally like the USB eLicenser dongle system very much. I plug it into a separate USB port, which is very cool. If I need to verify my authorization through the Internet in the future (network verification is required every time I start the software), I will give up using Cubase.

Please note that this will delete the Soft-eLicenser and the license contained there, generating a new empty Soft-eLicenser with a different number.

With the new Soft-eLicenser, you can reactivate the Basic FX Suite using the reactivate procedure:

code i have receive by mail 32 digit for Cubase Pro 9.5 Upgrade from Cubase Artist 6 / 6.5 / 7 / 7.5 / 8 / 8.5 / 9 maybe I should not have bought it having EDU version but I ask before official reseller and the store did not say anything in checout

Please check with Steinberg Support EU about whether your Cubase 6 Education version can use the currently discounted 40% offer. Please use the email address of > in...@steinberg.de > to confirm whether you can purchase your selected upgrade for you Cubase 6 Education version.

In order to not experience this hardrive footprint issue which can happen with a Windows Update, repair or just a reinstall I have moved my license from my hardrive to my usb stick. Now if the stick should fail I guess you can retrieve to a new stick with the eLicenser information you sent in the database.

I still use my dongle from SX3!

I have already registered my licence for Cubase 9.5 Pro on Windows 8, 64 bit system. When I start the programme it says No Valid license found. The programme will quit now. I did ran the maintenance at elicenser Control Centre.

When I re entered the activation code, it is not accepting as it has already use it to generate the license.

Grateful if you can help to solve the issue.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Hello!

I have problems with Cubase 10.5 update.

I am using 9.0 version. eLicenser Control Center shows 9.5

Purchased Cubase Pro 10.5 update from Cubase Pro 7 / 7.5 / 8 / 8.5 / 9 with activation code.

Entered activation code to eLCC and its not working, look at the picture.

So I need to buy other newer eLicenser USB key or what?

Heya.I've started using VE Pro, and while it does all work correctly, I am unable to have VE Pro open PRIOR to opening cubase or any other program that uses my eLicenser. When having VE Pro open (even without a metaframe loaded, just the VE Pro 64bit Server) I get the following error:----eLicenser Control - ErrorApplication 'Cubase / Cubase Artist' has caused the following error:An important service has become unresponsive. Please restart your computer to fix this problem. Please visit to download and install the latest version of the Elicenser Control software in case the problem persists.----I've checked to make sure VE Pro, eLicenser and Cubase 7 are all up to date, along with all windows updates etc - I've also made sure that all the programs are being run with full admin settings - I'm unsure what else to try really. It works fine when running cubase and then opening VE Pro though - but this sort of isn't ideal considering the workflow improvements is what I'm mainly using VE Pro for :P

I've had this exact issue on two separate builds; using Win7 x64 and Win8.1 Pro x64. Only when I recently moved over from Ableton to Cubase and the latter did not start up (since it needs eLicenser) did I realize that VEP Pro is the culpit. In my previous build, Ableton would fail to open any plugins requiring eLicenser. In my current build with Cubase, Cubase simply won't load and shows the error message as reported in above posts.

All in all, over the last year, I have spent more time updating eLicenser, rebooting the computer (according to the error message), changing USB ports for the key, than what I have spent in VEP Pro and Vienna Instruments Pro!

Thanks a lot for the proposed fix, Stiltzkinz! Attempted this last night, but Win8 gave me some issues with "SeLicenser.sel" being object protected. Will try to find a way around that though. Maybe I will be able to finally use VEP Pro after a year and a half of crashes :)

I have the reverse situation with Cubase 8. If I launch Cubase 8 then attempt to launch VEP I get the attached errors as described above. Replacing SeLicenser.sel, uninstalling and reinstalling all products has no effect. Any suggestions welcome.

It seems that VEP locks the eLicenser at times, I've encountered this too many times with Arturia's plugins too. However, Cubase is probably only verified at the startup, so if you can prevent VEP from being active when starting your DAW, you should be fine.

Sadly, already tried that. There is clearly some difference between Cubase 8 and 7.5, in that I only get this issue with Cubase 8. Even if your solution worked for me, it wouldn't solve my problem. Say I had reached the mixing stage and found there was an issue with a particular instrument and I wanted to just replace that instrument. Normally I would load the project in Cubase and then VEP, so that opening the project would not trigger opening all 20GB of instances when I only wanted to re-record just 1 350MB instrument. I use 2 slaves, but all my brass is still hosted on the DAW.

I have raised a ticket with Steinberg with disappointing results - it took 2 weeks for their first response which was effectively a 'turn if off, turn it on again we assume you're an idiot standard response' with an 'it's VEP causing the problem so it's not our fault anyway' footer. I replied immediately pointing out why it is an eLicenser issue as much as a VEP issue and that they should maybe be a little more helpful (but more polite than that!) 8 days ago and so far - tumbleweed.

I haven't raised a VSL ticket at this point because the problem only occurs with CB8 - but maybe it is worth a try. I guess I'm assuming that VSL don't necessarily understand the inner workings of the eLicenser (which is of course, as the error messages show, the bit that is falling over).

since yesterday I've got the same problem. When I start VE Pro first and then Cubase 7.5 then I get the same error message and cubase won't start. When I open cubase first and then VE Pro I still get a error message but at least VE Pro starts.

Thing is, this didn't happen before, all was working just fine. The only things I changed recently was updating Kontakt to the latest version and update the graphics drivers because a 3rd party VST plugin needed it.
