A Toast
It’s hard labor to be born,
and it’s even harder to live,
but most of us have
a strong desire to stay alive.
No matter what, we don't give up.
We keep swimming.
In storms, we struggle to stay afloat,
hanging onto slippery hope
as waves crash over our heads.
Quite often, we need rescuing.
Against all odds, we try to keep
swimming until our very last breath.
And so I pen these simple words,
in praise of human stubbornness.
