I am guessing that "from bad to verse" has been used before, in some form or other, but I do not remember reading it . . . 
if you recognize the phrase "from bad to verse," please do let me know where it was used previously!  Thanks!

Ah. A fast Google search shows the use of these words, "bad to verse," in Three Different Titles of books by three different authors. C'est la vie.

At least, as I understand it, as three different people have used it, this means anyone can use it, without need of attribution.
There are so many "Rules of three."
