The New Generation by Jill Stockinger
Through the ages, the prior generation is always one
step behind the next generation who always
wants to take over, wants to claim its
rightful place. The young ones shine
so brightly, wrapped in fiery anger,
in the proud arrogance
of youth.
The earlier generation is fighting lost
battles, demanding respect and
insisting it has the answers,
but no generation has
turned this world
into a paradise.
The old ones get pushed aside. Ignored,
they find it easier to admit their past
mistakes and ask forgiveness, now
that their rage is more like
mist than red-hot fire.
