For those of you knowledgeable about hunting, you have no need to read this! For those of us who are less knowledgeable, this may help you understand Curt's poem, HER TALENT. My take on Curt's poem, HER TALENT: So Curt wrote a poem, HER TALENT, where he gives 3 different Metaphors to paint pictures of the One Same Action. Three ways of looking at the same thing. At least he didn't give 13 of them! (Yes, I'm referencing the poem, THIRTEEN WAYS OF LOOKING AT A BLACKBIRD, written by Wallace Stevens.) SO, pointing-she "picked him out, as he was hiding"-and "flushed him"- caused him to show himself, out in the open, in front of her. Leading to her "bagging him"--not explicitly mentioned, but indicated from the other metaphors, where he was "HOOKED AND NETTED"  like a fish and where he was "ROPED AND HOG-TIED" like cattle are. Ways to say she CAUGHT him.--Jill

Pointing dogs were originally used by hunters who netted the game. The dog would freeze or set (as in Setter), pointing its nose toward the game, to allow the hunter to throw the net over the game before it flushed. Flushing dogs, on the other hand, were often used by falconers to flush the game for the raptors. (Hope this helped! Jill!)
