Dear compadres,
I just had a very intense workshop on writing poetry. The person teaching it made it clear that
1) she USED to "tie up her poems" at the end in "neat ribbons and bows," providing strong conclusions.
Making the meaning VERY clear. TELLING the reader "what to think."
2) Now she favors-and supports us favoring-NOT doing that. Leaving poems more OPEN-ENDED.
More INCONCLUSIVE. She was very convincing. So I went back and started REMOVING my "strong conclusions"
I had been so proud of crafting! This does change the poems.
Things to think about!
And apologies to those who get this email twice. A number of you have said you Stopped Receiving the "group emails"--this now includes
Liz saying this as well-so I used the group email I always use but I type in 5 more emails separately, just to make sure you all receive the email.
the names I now type in separately ON TOP of using the group email are these:
Curt, Patti, Jerry, Celia, and now Liz, too.
But if you get duplicate emails from me constantly, let me know, and I will stop adding your email separately, besides using the "group email."
Jill
