I am slowly filing a "lump of poems" into my six notebooks, alphabetically, by their titles.
As I do so, I read them again. For a small number, I start revising.
Here's the one I revised today. It is shorter than before and has a new last line.
I think it's better.  See what you think.  Jill

I Stand Watch                 

 

in what was once

a green garden.

I scare love away

so it cannot roost.

It flaps its shining wings,

flies around fitfully

and caws jarringly.

 

Once there was a husband here–

when he died,

I became a scarecrow

keeping solitary watch

over a barren field,

salted with pain.
