I have no idea why!
It came into my head- an earwig of a song- a round that goes round and round!
So of course I must share it
(The earwig demands it.) Jill

The Days of the Week: A Round        by Jill Stockinger

It’s wash the clothes on Monday

On Monday

On Monday

It’s wash the clothes on Monday

And that is that.

It’s scrub the floors on Tuesday

On Tuesday

On Tuesday

It’s scrub the floors on Tuesday

And that is that.

It’s sew and mend on Wednesday

On Wednesday

On Wednesday

It’s sew and mend on Wednesday

And that is that.

It’s go to market on Thursday

On Thursday

On Thursday

It’s go to market on Thursday

And that is that.

It’s bake bread and pies on Friday

On Friday

On Friday

It’s bake bread and pies on Friday

And that is that.

We'll call for neighbors and for kin

On Saturday

On Saturday

We'll eat and drink and dance and sing—

Saturdays are grand!

It’s bow our heads on Sunday

On Sunday

On Sunday

It’s bow our heads on Sunday

And then we start all over again.

This makes me very happy, Jill.  I had flashes of my great grandmother’s rain barrel from which she drew water for various uses. She once washed my hair using the water. I think based on your song, hair washing might have been on a Saturday morning.  Before all the folks came over    😀

Those niggling earwigs!

I thought it might be better to delete "then" in the last line but as I read the round again out loud, the rhythm is better as you wrote it.

Fun and reminds me of the folk song I grew up with:

Dashing away with the smoothing iron.
