Hello Writers,
I had forgotten that this event actually took place in 1916, and was much later written about in 1945.

I attach here the middle part of the family story. Also, yes, to answer your question, Jill, see below that the writer seemingly did connect this event to the infamous Borgia family.

Borgia Family
, Spanish Borja, descendants of a noble line, originally from ValenciaSpain, that established roots in Italy and became prominent in ecclesiastical and political affairs in the 1400s and 1500s. The house of the Borgias produced two popes and many other political and church leaders. Some members of the family became known for their treachery.

Since antiquity, poisoning has been a traditional political weapon. In Renaissance Italy, murder in political circles became so frequent that nobody believed in the natural death of popes, cardinals, and royalty. This period in history was marked by poisoning attempts of the Borgia family. It was said that they were using several kinds of poison among which Cantarella a variation of arsenic, the composition of which remains unknown.

Ah, those Borgia's...

Dear Liz--
The excitement mounts as questions multiply!
I am enjoying the story--but your poor relative.

Hi Liz,

Did you write the chapter on the Borgias? It's very good. One small suggestion, however. In the next to last sentence, after "among which" and before "Cantarella," add the verb "was."  (Or a verb of your choosing.) Otherwise you've got a run-on taking off. And then a comma after "Cantarella" to set it off.

I'm really looking forward to your next installment!
Nedra
