Our Marriage by Jill Stockinger
If ever two people were meant
to be together, it is us,
so well-matched are we
in repartee, stinging rebukes
and snide asides.
Who else could we marry?
Who else could so ably
exchange, parry for parry, such
sparkling words of withering wit,
deep thrusts of acid denigration,
or catch with glee each other’s
terrible puns? There’s no mystery
to our abiding love; it is clear
we were made for each other.
