Closing Time

I order a draft from the waitress

who has taken my orders for a month or so now. [plural sounds better to me here even if you just order one at a time]

No, I’m wondering, just a bit puzzled  [use contraction like below]

and awestruck that I’m still around

at closing time again tonight.

Walking

It was rather normal for people 

out walking to stop and chat 

with other out-and-about walkers.  [not sure about using the hyphens but it seems better to me - but it is poetry so rules can change]

And that’s why no newspaper 

could get a foothold in our town. 

Why wait for news to be printed out, 

when you could hear it firsthand. 

Now that news could be less accurate 

than a well-flushed out article by one 

of those who-what-when-and-where reporters. [hyphens again - or not]

The Chasm

Through omission, two situations
emerged: we could continued [since "emerged" no could unless it was "could emerge"]
avoiding any form of solution,
and we could allowed the problem
to increase its hold on us.

The kids are gone sort of.
We both are retired.
Our life goes on as it has
only more as two separate lives.

Only Seldom intersecting only

when family intercedes and

we both must interact.

If either Neither of us had the guts
to push for a remedy,
but we seem willing to live
on our side of the chasm
and put up with the occasional
bridging necessary for family.
