Hi everybody. I just wanted to ask a quick question, are we writing,
or are we just thinking about writing. I know I fall into the trap of
constantly thinking about all of these great plots and characters, but
when it gets right down to it, I haven't been actually writing as much
as I want to.

How about everybody else?

I suppose I've been writing. Not so much entire stories as role-
playing in forum-based games. That seems to be my vice. I'm too
involved in other worlds to work on my own stories. I may need to cut
back on something.

I'm just finishing up with a writing class, so I've been writing for
that.

I'm writing. Just finished a 163 page short romance last night and
have one already in the works, sitting at around 68 pages. Although,
I haven't been doing much of my favorite poetry for a while.
Sometimes, I come up with great plots and characters and share them
with friends who then run with them.

I haven't been able to share any of my characters with anybody, mainly
because I get attached to them. What is it like to see a character you
created in a story you didn't write?

Mainly, I just feel a little judgmental about how they're being
handled. I've been playing this interactive fiction game for some
years, so I'm used to letting other people use character I've
created. Usually, the other players have a pretty good idea of how
they're supposed to act. Still, I might be thinking to myself, "I
don't think they'd say it like that," or "That's not quite the way I'd
have them react." I wouldn't normally say anything unless I thought
they were completely out of character.

Some companies, like Paramount, don't appreciate fanfiction and will
take steps to have websites with them taken down. If I found Chimera
Knight fanfiction, I'd use it as a source of inspiration for a
sequel. It's a good way to see what the fans want to see happen.

I understand. Since many of my characters are based on people I know
and meet along this journey, I'm very self-conscious about them. Some
people are just better off not knowing that my character is loosely
based on them and their personalities. I told someone once, and then
when I killed the character halfway through the book, they took it as
an offensive threat. A bit overboard on their part as I was only
using the personality, but it taught me never to share "who" my
characters are in real life.

What is it like to see one of my characters in someone elses story (as
in I sold them the character description)? Well, I consider it a bit
of an honor, really. Some of my characters have gone on to be very
important people in the world of writing. I love to see what other
authors do with the character. In fact, in a class I took way back in
the early days, we were given a character and situation and everyone
in the room wrote something different using the same character and it
was really cool how different people could create such different
people from the same personality profile. Besides, in all honesty, I
love the paycheck that comes along with the royalties.

sorry so late in getting back to you...rough week in the family life.
B.lee.
