Hi, Dmitri:

I installed OO and Writer's Tools on my new laptop. When I highlight a
word and click Lookup Tool on the Writer's Tools menu, the Lookup Word
box appears. When I click the Lookup button on this box, it dumps me
into the macro editor into a routine named "CREATE AND OPEN URL" with
this line highlighted: "Shell(DefaultBrowser,1,FinalURLString)."
There's also a message box on top that says: "Basic Runtime Error -
File not found." I think it's trying to find my browser, but I don't
know how to tell the routine where to find it. Under "Calls" in the
lower right corner it says: "0: BrowseURL(URLString=http://
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/potential". I was looking up the word
"potential."

Regards,

Rita

Hi Rita,

What system do you use on your laptop (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows)? When
you run the Lookup Tool first time, did it prompt you to enter path to
your browser? If it did, what path did you enter?

Kind regards,
Dmitri

Hi, Dmitri:

I'm running Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600. I have to say that I
honestly don't remember entering a path. I believe OO was installed on
the computer when I bought it on eBay. I believe I did download and
install the Writer's Tools, so I guess maybe it did ask me for a path.
I did add some more web sites to the lookup box by editing the
appropriate macro, but I'm pretty sure that's all I did. Let me know
if you need more info.

Regards,

Rita

Hi Rita,

Go to the C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application
Data\OpenOffice.org\3\user directory and delete the writertools
folder. When you run the Lookup Tool again, it should prompt you to
enter the path to your default browser. Do so, and everything should
work.

Kind regards,
Dmitri

Hi Rita,

Did you try to remove Writer's Tools and install it again?

Kind regards,
Dmitri

I did. Still get the error. It never asked me for a path to the
default browser. It just displays the lookup box when I click Lookup
Tool on the Writer's Tools menu and dumps me into the code editor when
I click the Lookup button on the Lookup Tool box. I also lost all the
custom stuff I had added -- dictionary.com, etc.

Hi Rita,

This is very strange. Try to do a search for the defaultbrowser.ini
file on your system. If the search finds it, delete it, and try to run
the Lookup Tool again. Otherwise, I'm out of ideas.

Kind regards,
Dmitri

Dmitri:

Thanks for the help. If I ever get it worked out, I'll post here. I
think it's something odd about this PC. Thanks again! :-)

Dmitri:

I didn't have that .ini file on my laptop.

I finally got it working, though. I had to hard code the browser path
into a shell statement in the lookup tool macro.

For some reason the macro was crashing on that statement that
contained a variable that contained the browser path.

Once I wrote the actual browser path in place of the variable, it
worked fine.

Not very elegant. I was always a bit of a hacker with no analysis
skills whatsoever. :-) Bull in a china shop.

Thanks for sticking with me.

Regards,

Rita
