            In the coming days, members of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) will vote on the establishment of a system of marine protected areas in the Southern Ocean.

Covering an area that is greater than twice the size of India, the proposal being urged by numerous environmental groups would see the sanctuary become the largest of its kind.

Despite receiving support from Australia and the EU, the proposal has received resistance from regional powerhouse South Korea, as well as Russia (among others); so that they may “plunder these seas now that others have been fished to death” writes the champion of the CCAMLR’s cause, Leonardo DiCaprio.

 Looking to protect the largest population of penguins, seals, and whales, the establishment of the CCAMLR’s proposed sanctuary will help protect the region’s vibrant ecosystem, as well as sending a message to the governments of the world to no longer put profit over our planet’s future.

 Anyone interested in the establishment of the sanctuary can sign the petition set up by Mr. DiCaprio and avaaz.org, a site dedicated to protecting Earth’s ecosystems. Through exerting public pressure through the petition on those that seek to bar the establishment of the sanctuary, people of all ages and nationalities can make their voice heard.

Connor, 

   Share your stuff with me through Google Docs, not the groups. The group stuff I'll just use to post assignments on. It's more difficult it seems to share through the groups so I'm sticking with the docs. 

   This article doesn't have enough of a hook for a high school audience. How can you add that? You need specific dates, maybe you want to write an opinion piece about star power and the environment. As it stands it's just too unrelated to the school to be of much use to the newspaper, so your job is to find a way to make it useful.
