Independent Projects


In this class there is an independent research project as well as an independent creative project.  These projects are considered part of the culminating activities and account for at least 10% of the students midterm mark and 10% of the final mark. Six classes will be devoted to the independent creative project and six classes will be devoted to the independent research project.

Research Project: This project develops the student’s research, inquiry, and critical thinking skills (synthesis, hypothesis, organizing, analysis, proof). ANY TOPIC is legitimate. The teacher and student will determine the parameters and scope of the project through consultation.

There are seven steps to the process: 1) Questioning and validation of interest 2) Research and background reading 3) Focussing the topic and format  4) Generating an annotated  bibliography (3 texts, 3 web sites, 3 magazine articles) 5) Draft One 6) Revisions  7) Final Draft and brief Oral Presentation

Creative Project: This project develops the student’s creative and problem solving skills.
