This is looking very much like Ulysses. This is not a bad thing. I do have me some viscous Ulysses envy. I've tried it on my wife's iPad, and its beautiful, but A) its not my iPad so I would never have enough time with it to really do any writing, so some of it is still a bit opaque to me and B) its called Ulysses, not Writemonkey. How lame, right? I also have issues with everything about Ulysses living in iCloud until you export it, leaving me to feel the need to export at the end of every writing session which is ridiculous because when I say "writing session" I mean "this stolen six and a half minutes while waiting for the kids to get out of religion class, with the laptop perched on one knee and the parking break lever in a church parking lot conspicuously free of WiFi signals". Exporting would eat up the back third of that "session" easy.

Anyway, I'm totally ready to start kicking the crap out of a build of WM3 any time you are :)

Yes it has some Ulysses vibe :) I ditched multiple pane view for now, it was just to confusing and wm3 should stay minimalist (whatever that means anyway). I'll prepare a build for you over the weekend. Right now I am wondering - should jumps tool (document toc, bookmarks ...) reside inside left document column and the user can toggle between the two, or is it better to have it in separate column, maybe on the right side? Right pane is reserved for different tools - markdown preview, plugins functionality ...

I've been using Ulysses a lot (mainly because I can't get Writemonkey to work on my mac), so I'm very much looking forward to the new version!
Ulysses is great, but as Kensai said, it's not WM ;)

I can't wait for this! Would be happy to test any alphas or betas. I like Ulysses on my Mac, but still prefer using WriteMonkey (I sync between the 2 via Dropbox.)

The 2 or 3 pane text editor window is pretty standard, but I've grown accustomed to a separate Jumps window (also CTRL-TAB command to access recent files is really handy!) Maybe keeping the text window to plain single window is best, that might be one of the reasons I like WM, it feels like a totally plain text editor with some great added features rather than a 3-pane outliner type program. I keep the Jumps window on the right edge of my screen, it's there if I need otherwise it is basically out of my view.

This looks promising. A huge update like this one will be very welcome.

In another thread, you mentioned you'd release a public beta by the end of 2015 -- probably not anymore, right? Any estimates?

Also, have you already decided how the pricing's gonna work, especially for those who've already upgraded their WM?

This looks amazing! As others have said, I'd love to beta-test this, and I'm wondering what you would charge for an 'upgrade' licence from 2.7 -> 3.

Regards, and keep up the great work. :)

Paul.

That goes for me too! If there's any way to join beta testing, count me in :)

WM3 will continue as freemium / donationware. Since it is a completely new app, old keys won't be valid for version 3.

Considering you rewrote WM from the ground up for WM3, I'd say that's fair.

Will WM3 support plugins?

Yes, plugins will be donors only.
