For a very efficient text editor the only problem I experience in my workflow is losing the cursor. It can be very hard to see in some lighting conditions and some text/background color combinations. I have several color setups for different (light) locations and moods and find myself using the arrow keys in frustration of not finding the cursor. This is even worse when doing quick movements through text.

Is there an option to make it more visible? Can it be fattened up or replaced by an icon? I have yet to find such an option in the various settings menus.

Cheers,

I am using fat caret myself but this is not something you setup in wm but in Windows settings. See: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/208087-cursor-set-thickness-width.html
Because this is system wide you'll have new caret everywhere the system caret is used and this is something one might not want. You can also set blink frequency to the point where you have non blinking caret.

Thanks as always for your fast and effective responses.

This has somewhat improved things. A combination of your link and also enabling a large, inverted cursor setting helped. My main issue was that when I moved the cursor around the screen it disappeared. The caret being thicker is a bonus though. Thanks for the tip about making it less distracting by effectively turning off the blinking.
I found another setting amongst those menus that helped a little with the hard to find cursor. There is an option to click and release the control key so a small expanding ring briefly shows you where it is on the screen..

...Although my version of Windows 7 at least does not seem to have the blinking speed option anywhere. Is that a WIndows 8 thing only perhaps?

Hit start button and search for cursor = Change cursor blink rate :)

If I understood you correctly, putting that search string (in the 'search programs and files' box of the start menu) just brings up a 'no items match your search' reply.

Have I missed something?

We have a winner! I realize that may have felt like pulling teeth for you so thanks again.

BTW, for others with similar aims who may be reading this thread, other options like a shadowing effect on the cursor along with the inverted color option help keep track of it while you whiz around your document especially in bright ,external lighting conditions.

Cheers,
