I use Write beta on Android.  I also sync my files to a cloud provider as a backup. Overall, it works very well, but sometimes the syncing creates issues with corrupted files.

Recently, I had an 18 page file, i.e. one html file with 18 svg files with the actual writing data.  However, due to syncing, my html file was over-written with another version, and that new version had only 12 pages.  So, while I still had all 18 svg files, there seemed no way to get the last 6 pages to display in Write.

I tried importing the last 6 files as pictures, but could find no way to do so, i.e. none of the svg files showed themselves as viable choices when I tried to import content.

In my case, I decided to peek at the structure of the html file.  It turned out to be a very simple structure, and it was trivial to manually change the html to include the lost 6 pages.

This ends well, but wondered if an "import Write pages (svg files)" could be implemented in a next version.

Please share your thoughts.

Hi Ken,
Another way to recover the full document would be to replace the <name>.html file with a blank file - Write will then find all the <name>_pageXXX.svg files and create a new document <name> - Recovered.html.

Do you know why your sync program (which one?) replaced the 18 page version with the 12 page version?  Was the 12 page version opened on another device before it received the the 18 page version?  Write saves the viewing position and thumbnail to the .html file so just viewing a document will modify the .html file.  I'll think about changing this - in the meantime, using Document -> Discard Changes to close a document after viewing w/o editing will avoid this.

Best,
Matt White

Both tips very helpful.  I was using BoxSync, and generally it behaves pretty well (although I have turned off automatic syncing.

As to the idea of creating an option for "Do not trigger sync by only viewing files", i.e. do not resave html file unless there were actual edits, that would be very helpful to folks like me having to create an external sync method..  Burying it in some advance option menu would be fine.

Thank you!
