Duplicates in Compustat -> Fundamentals Annual

Hello all,

Hope you are all well.

I downloaded the data for all companies for a year(let's say 2016) based on all Cashflow Items variables and I got around 19000 records(for 2016). As you can see there are a lot of companies.

I took a closer look and observed that the companies have at least 2 duplicates. 1 instance of a company has the majority of variables and the other 1 or 2 contain only the GVKEY and sometimes CAPX(Capital Expenditure). Sometimes the CAPX differs between instances.

Does anyone knows why there are these duplicates?

I appreciate any help.

Hi,

Compustat Fundamental Annual requires a filter: only keep records where indfmt='INDL' datafmt='STD' popsrc='D' and consol='C'. That way all firm-years should be unique.
