merge/match firms from Compustat and Markit

Hi, every one 

I am trying to merge a data set from Compustat and Markit, provided by WRDS.

Compustat: Company Name, Ticker Symbol, CUSIP, CIK Number, GVKEY

Markit: REDCODE, TICKER, SHORTNAME

These two databases don’t have any common identifier, e.g., The “ticker” symbol from Markit is different from Compustat, and the company name is also not identical. Any suggestions, how can I merge/match. I have significant large samples from each database.
