Guys,
I need some help. I'm on the sailing committee at the Cambridge Yacht Club over here on the Eastern Shore. I'm not sure in what capacity, but one of the things I'll be doing is working to get more fleets out to our Admiral Byrd Cup regatta run on July 12 - 13 next year.
The first thing is that I'd like to have my stalwart friends at WRCA show up and dazzle the local sailors with your speed over the smooth waters of the Choptank River. I've heard it said that the group is getting too old or lazy to load their boats on a trailer and drive an hour over the bridge. I refuse to believe those scandalous stories. You are not Devo, you are Men!
Three boats make up a fleet. If you get three different cats, we'll put a handicap fleet of cat sailors together. Hell, I have a Hobie Getaway (Portsmouth rating of 85) with an H16 spin kit on it. It's mild, but interesting downwind. I'll loan it to any two guys that can drive over here; you don't even have to bring a boat. On top of that, I have four beds and two guest bedrooms at my house. I'll put up the first four racers who commit to coming. There's a Denny's a half mile from the house on the way to the club for breakfast. Come over Fri if you want, or early Saturday.
The other help I need is some contact info for the 505s, Flying Scots, and Albacores. These are fleets we'd like to have join the fun.
Entry gets you a ticket for the buffet, a beer, and some oysters on the half shell. CYC is behind this regatta 100% and is committed to giving the sailors a great experience. You could even say you want to do only one day and be scored (no overnight). We accommodated the Comet fleet this year on that schedule, but I know you'll probably want to do both days. You are all cat sailors, a special breed of scallywags.
Thanks for reading through this shameless promotion. I know you'll enjoy the event (nice personalized trophies mailed to you) and I will be fun to see you all again.
