Radar .VOL format

Dear all,

I would like to read out radar data file from EDGE software (ECC company) in binary format ".VOL".
I don't have the library which can decode it.

If you know how do I open it, suggest me please?

I also tried to find a format description for EDGE's vol format, without success yet. EDGE's vol format is also different from the so-called Rainbow vol format provided by Germatronic.

Dear Parichat,

one thing I forgot: I think the EDGE software provides the option to export data as NetCDF. The EDGE NetCDF files can be read by wradlib.io.read_EDGE_netcdf. However, I guess you need access to the EDGE software in order to export the data as NetCDF.

Dear Maik and Thomas,

Unfortunately, the EDGE software is install in PC which control Radar at site where far from my University.
By the way, I found "Titan library" from NCAR, there are a routine that can read EDGE format.
I tried to install it on my Mac and failed.
Might be the Titan have some old binary file that can't install on Mac, but possible for Linux system.

If you are Linux user, might be you can try to get the format description from the Titan and apply to routine for wradlib.

thanks a lot for the hint! I downloaded the TITAN source and looked for the EDGE decoder. However, documentation returned bad news:

This means that you need a proprietary library from EEC named ETOR in order to make this work, in addition to TITAN.

So I don't really see a perspective here...even if we could port the TITAN code to wradlib.

It result a message :
QWindowsWindow::setGeomtery: Unable to set geometry 1000x1066+8+31 on QWidgetWindow/'MainWindowClassWindow'. Resulting geometry: 1000x749+8+31(frame:8, 31, 8, 8, custom margin: 0,0, 0, 0, minimum size: 67x66, maximum size: 16777215x16777215).

why? and how to solved it?


Also i want to save latitude and longitude reflectivity z result in txt format. i try it in with 
xyz_ each xyz_ = wrl.vpr.volcoords_from_polar(sitecoords, el, azi, r, proj)

using save code
np.savetxt('F:/radar_/script/00_00_01.txt', xyz_,fmt="%2.3f", delimiter=",")

 ....in the result, there are lon lat and one variable (i don't know what it is. Is reflectivity or? if i compared with display code in http://wradlib.org/wradlib-docs/latest/notebooks/fileio/wradlib_load_rainbow_example.html ...why in display has negative value and in stored not? it's minimum value is 19.

As for the Qt issue: Does it work if you switch to inline plotting? Just replace

    try:

by

    %matplotlib inline

As for the other part of your question: wrl.vpr.volcoords_from_polar returns the 3-D coordinates for a specific set of spherical (polar) coordinates. The z in xyz_thus corresponds to altitude, not reflectivity.

Recently i  add install jupyter with conda install jupyter and it work.
and after rangestep and stoprange are multipiled by 1000...it work.
