Another bug fix release wpkg-gp 0.18b1 (internal version 0.16.9) is available for testing. Download it here.

Following has changed:

ADMX template is missing the clientExtension definition (#111)
ADMX and ADML file should be deployed by the installer (#108)
   WpkgWriter doesn't log (#102)
Localize the strings displayed during installation (#7)

Before we release it as 0.18 we want to make sure that it does not introduce any regressions. Please test it therefore and give us feedback if there are any issues.

Especially the localization needs to be tested very well. If there are any question concerning this please refer to this conversation.

Cheers,
Oliver

I've done a quick translation in italian, but i've some doubt.

msgid "Cancel called, WPKG process was killed"
msgid "Cancel called, WPKG process was not running"

This mean that, via the RPC interface, someone or something send a
''cancel'' command to wpkg-gp, right?

msgid "Wpkg-GP requested a reboot, but we have rebooted too many times in a row. Continuing."
msgid "Installation requested a reboot. Rebooting now."
msgid "Installation requires a reboot, but policy set to ignore reboots. Continuing."

This seems to me three strings with a common scenario, but AFAIK it is
not 'wpkg-gp' that request a reboot (it is wpkg) and i'm using wpkg not
only to ''install'', but also to deploy configuration, or at least
upgrade existing ''things''.

So i propose, for all three:

"WPKG requested a reboot(,|.) ...

Thanks.

Hi, you are correct on all of your assumptions.

However I think the different error messages was set originally to be different in order for it to be easier to debug what went wrong as there are subtle differences between them. These messages are logged in one of the debug log files you can analyze later.

Maybe it could be solved with an adding an code instead or logging the more verbose message in english while using the localized on screen? (That would probably be better from a debug standpoint, as at least I would have difficulties understanding an error message in Brazilian Portugese :)

(one of) The things i hate more in windows is the bad practice to
translate log event, so it is hard to look at them in google.

So, definitely, yes: logs in english, messages for users localized.

I think this is a great idea: keep LOG messages in english and translate ONLY GUI messages.

I agree but... ;)

At this point the log messages are still in English. Some messages might
show up partly in a different language. This is due to WpkgWriter
logging what it is writing to the screen... this has to remain like this
otherwise might it be difficult to find errors with invalidly shown
messages on the screen (this might become even more apparent when we
have different languages which could cause issues with special
characters etc.).

Those message show up in the log file like "Writing '%s' to pipe"
whereas %s might be in a different language.

The problem at this point is that certain logging messages are only
logged by WpkgWriter - mainly what WpkgOutputParser produces - so I
think to solve this issue just some more log messages need to be added
so all important logs are there in English.

Hello guys,

I can't get messages displayed in non-English language on OS boot.
I have translated wpkg-gp.pot file to russian language with poedit and i'm trying to get it working. I placed saved *.mo file called wpkg-gp.mo into a directory \Program Files\Wpkg-GP\locale\LC_MESSAGES\ru\, rebooted pc and nothing happens - messages are still written in English. What i'm doing wrong? Did someone get messages displayed normally with non-English translation? Thanks!

Wbr,
Ger.

Hello Ger, Hello all others

Thx Ger. I'v forgot this to post in November. I've tried same things in German with no Luck. I've putted the *.mo file in different directories (de, de_de, DE, en, us, ...) and named the *.mo file in different ways. The language is still english.

Regards
Peter

Hello Peter,

Finally got it working. I used wrong path for *.mo file, after reading docs for gettext (https://docs.python.org/2/library/gettext.html#class-based-api) i placed UTF-8 translated wpkg-gp.mo in directory:

\Program Files\Wpkg-GP\locale\<YOUR_LANGUAGE>\LC_MESSAGES\

in my case (russian language), it was \Program Files\Wpkg-GP\locale\ru\LC_MESSAGES\wpkg-gp.mo

Everything is fine now.

Wbr,
Ger.

Hi

Can someone just send me the original english .mo file so I can translate it again ? Please send to dv.linuxfacil AT GMAIL.

I lost it somewhere... and would like to test it now : so I´ll translate again those 13 sentences.

BTW: There are indications about what messages to translate (UI) and those to left in english (logs) on .mo file ?
That would be great to be CLEAR on original english file, so anyone wishing to translate to any language would know what to translate.

After translate, would be nice to have a site to upload or one e-mail to send so they can appear on Download site on a TRANSLATION folder.

You can find the newest template to translate here
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/cleitet/wpkg-gp/master/locale/wpkg-gp.pot

In this template only strings which are shown in the user interface are
added. All Log files entry remain in English and are therefore not added
to this template.

It could be thought about to integrate different translations in future
setups but for now each administrator has the chance to integrate it
themselves by copying translations to \Program
Files\Wpkg-GP\locale\<YOUR_LANGUAGE>\LC_MESSAGES\.
Maybe we also leave it like that as this way the system administrator
can also customize the strings as need to, will see.

Cheers,
Oliver
