WPGRers,

I was attempting to physically show a client where something was in the Admin area of their WordPress site, and immediately had this vision of being able to chat directly with them in the Dashboard (via a plugin or other method) in a chat window that 'hovered' in some fashion over the admin area for both of us in our separate locations. Seems like an awesome idea, but not many suitable / feasible plugin options when Googling such things.... Some references suggested adding the chat functionality to the index files?

Does anyone have a bead on something like that, either that you've tried or that you've used? I current example of what I would have liked this functionality for would be:
- client was logged into site, working on a Draft Post
- I wanted to alert her immediately that there was already a Draft by that very same name that she had left unfinished
- plus, it would be easy then to walk alongside her as she edited content or made new Posts, etc.

Thoughts?

Steve,

I was looking at writing a quick plugin to integrate Intercom.io into the backend of our client's WordPress sites. Would something like that be what you're interested in?

Anything that is *not* front-end direct communication, but rather strictly one-to-one within the admin in WordPress, would be of interest. :)

I have a client using Olark -- that sort of interface within the Dashboard/admin area would be nice within the admin (though it need not be nearly as fancy!), as it retains the chat window on various pages as you move to different areas of the site (or, in this case, the admin areas). Obviously this would *not* need all the added features of user tracking, look&feel, etc. though... just an intercom-like function within the admin -- if Intercom.io is a great option for potentially porting that functionality to the admin, I'm all for it!

Jarrod Pyper and I were chatting about the value of such a tool in the WordPress community -- seems like it would become something rather ubiquitous in a short time? How helpful would/could that become if WordPress eventually came with a intercom feature out-of-the-box? It's surprising to me that it isn't already something that is "out there"... I can envision it -- just don't have near the developer chops (being a designer, dabbling in such things) to pull it off -- which is where wiser WordPress'ers such as yourself come into play. :)

Thanks for the response, Bob -- let's keep this dialog going?
