with local Shaw cable signals? Nero has a deal on this for $38 shipped,
and if I can hook it up , that would be sweet. I currently only have
Basic Digital service.

I have this exact same tuner to to my Windows 7 PC and it works just
fine. However, you will only get channels up to 80 or so and
certainly no HD. Occasionally, they may have something on clear QAM,
or so I've heard, but usually it's only for a few days. I tried it
(QAM) and it detected several channels, but nothing visible or audible
showed up when I tuned to those channels.

Assuming you have some kind of Shaw DCT for basic cable (I don't know I've
never had basic cable) and you use a splitter on the cable just tune the
gizmo to channel 3 or 4 and it should work.
I have a couple of machines with TV cards in them and they work fine doing
this. That reminds me that I have a USB gizmo like yours too kicking around
somewhere and haven't tried yet.
BTW split the cable forthe gizmo on the TV signal side...don't put the
splitter down stream on your internet coax because it could cause problems
with your internet service and/or TV signal.
Now watch ...some tool will post that he's got the splitter on his internet
line and it doesn't cause him any problems, even though Shaw advises against
it.
