500 jobs cut as Convergys ramps down their call centre here, it seems they're
downsizing so they can relocate and is using the economy as an excuse. It's
always been about the bottom line, and their shareholders wanting to make a
buck on the backs of the working stiff.

If the dollar stays where it is, I am sure that more corporate American
companies will pull out of Canada.

You are most likely right. I have always been an advocate for our dollar
to stay around $.88 - $.92 in order to attrack more business money into
Canada....

I think to many people take it as an insult that our dollar is less and
forget the amount of jobs/business it does attract.

Hell yeah, let's get that dollar down.
Why stick with a 75c dollar, let's go for a 50c one.
In fact why stop there, let's go for a 10c dollar. Just think how
great that'll be for our economy.
Why all our business could be foreign owned. We'll all be working for
Uncle Sam.

There needs to be a provincial penalty fee an employer must pay when
they do bulk layoffs like this. More than 25 a month, and each one
costs you $5,000. That money goes towards programs for the unemployed.

That will keep masses of people for entering the system all at once, and
it will make those corporate assholes think it's worth keeping people
around when it gets slow for a short period.

Convergys was given a million dollars last year, so they would keep business
here and keep people employed. Pull the loan, demand payment immediately now
they're letting 500 people go, and now there's even talk of them moving to the
states. We should be asking for the money back, now that they've gone back on
the agreement, instead of trying to collect our money once they have moved to
states.
