what ever happened to them? Did they actually put out a record?

I believe they put out two. After Orphan, Chris formed his own band, while
Lou went on to Strawdog with Alex from Queen City Kids.

There were two different bands with the same name.
Orphan came first, then The Orphans came along. Both bands had only one
person in common, Steve the guitar player.
Looks to me, like you are both speaking of two different bands.

Actually I have both albums by Orphan, and the have the same line-up with
exception of the drummers. Chris Burke Gaffney, Steve McGovern, Brent
Diamond, Terry Norman Taylor and (Ron Boisvenue, He is on the first album ).
The first line-up mentioned here went on to form the pumps with the
exception of Steve McGovern who was replaced by Lou Petrovich. The first
orphan album was Lonely at Night in 83, Followed by Salute in 86. That
should clear things up!

No, it doesn't clear things up. There were two different bands with the
same name. First came Orphan in the early 80s, who didn't do an album
and were merely a bar band. Steve went from Orphan, with Gaffney and
made THE Orphans, with Brent and Ron. The Pumps already existed before
Orphan, or The Orphans. I know I worked for the first Orphan and knew
all the players and still see lots of them to this day.
THAT should clear things up.

You're right about "THE PUMPS" being first before "ORPHAN". "THE PUMPS"
first album in 1980 (Pumps Music/Polygram Inc.) Album title "Gotta Move";
members were Terry Norman Taylor, Chris-Burke Gaffney, Brent Diamond and Lou
Petrovich.

Then came "ORPHAN" of which I have 2 albums. The first was done in 1983 by
CBS Inc. Members included Chris-Burke Gaffney, Steve McGovern, Brent
Diamond and Ron Boisvenue. Album title was "Lonely At Night".

The second album by "ORPHAN" was done in 1985 by CBS Records Canada Ltd.
Members included Chris-Burke Gaffney, Steve McGovern, Brent Diamond and
Terry Norman Taylor. Album title was "Salute".

So....I'm talking about "ORPHAN" Same band both albums, the only difference
was the addition of Terry Norman Taylor on the 2nd album, i.e. the drummer
originally with "THE PUMPS".

Neither of the albums I am talking about was done by a band you referred to
as "THE ORPHANS".

Cheers.

My bad, other way around The Orphans, first.
Steve McGovern, Dizzy, Greg Kirton and Paul Schellenberg were The
Orphans. Dizzy was an illegal American visitor who never let his real
name be known to most. Paul died last year when he was run over on his
bicycle in the north end. Greg is a nice normal guy who I last heard was
teaching drum lessons for fun after his day job.
I see all the pumps characters and work with Lou's brother Pete quite
often. Steve hasn't been seen in these parts in years and Ron returned
to Sicamous B.C. not long after the first album was released.
Too much weed and too many years since then to keep it all straight.

Ya I got ya!, too many years have gone by, and I hard a hard time trying to
remember things. I vaguely remember " The Orphans " But " Orphan was a
really big buzz here back in the early 80's, I've played around myself from
mid 70's to early 80's.

Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end...;-)
Bands of the 60's - The Deverons, The Fifth, The Jury, Luvin' Kind,
The Mongrels, The Quid, The Shondells - now those were bands!
