Shaw seems to be having terrible connection problems for the last few
days. The only thing going through seems to be bittorrent. I've limited
the up speed so I don't blast through the download speed limit.
Everything else I try requires *at least* two attempts to connect.
Specifically e-mail and the web. I've verified the various web sites are
up but are taking over a minute to respond to ping requests and return
with 78% packet loss. These aren't uncommon sites on the web. I'm
talking about Slashdot, Source Forge, and Google. Even my update checker
(Linux) won't go through.

If it's not better soon I'll probably phone Shaw to see what's up.
Since I'm not running Windows at home I'm 99.99999% sure I wasn't hit by
a virus. I rebooted the router so I know it's not that. There is plenty
of hard drive space (a couple of hundred GB) and loads of RAM. It's a
new Quad Core so there should be no speed issues. 'Tis a puzzlement...
Still I'm pretty sure the problem isn't on my end.

I can't confirm his Windows observation but Kubuntu installed on a
second computer has the same problems.

Since it's city wide it's most probably a DDoS clogging up the pipes.

sounds like DDos to me, I have no problems here at this end of the city.
If it was just you I'd say it was someone rerouting your traffic, i.e.
sniffing

I use a proxy server and it has gone down 3 times this week so Shaw is
defiantly doing something or the fucking feds will be here any miniature.

I was using Bittorrent for most of last week. By no means was I maxing
out the connection speed. The day after my download stopped the speed is
back to normal. I wonder if Shaw is trying to tell us Bittorrent is
verboten?

Yeah. I'm pretty pissed off too. I called them Saturday night and all I
found out was that Windsor Park and Southdale were having technical issues.
I'm down to a lowly MTS speed. Just barely above 700KB/s. Sickening.
I WANT MY 1,700KB/s BACK!!!
