What kind of junk does CDC sell.
Friend bought "new" system one month ago. Monitor packed it in on the 1st.
day. No problem--got new one as replacement.
Scanner hasn't worked properly for 1st week--took it in.
They've had the thing for 3 weeks and having problems fixing it. Wouldn't
you think they'd give him a new scanner and deal with the original scanner
on their own time and not inconvenience the customer.
I guess that what the "Better Business Bureau " is for!!

Negative experiences with CDC's hardware and service are quite common. I
recommend avoiding them at all costs.

You probably should have checked with the BBB before your purchase. I am
sure they have heard about them 'more than once.'

im pretty sure to get to this newsgruop, you need a computer, and a lot of
people are not informed about this NG, and buy one of their first computers
from a place like CDC...then they get around the net, talk to friends, and
can find this place. Best place for askin probs is either here or i dunno
if there is still a help NG or anythin... :/ sure know that there are a lot
of nice folks here who would love to help :)

Here is my CDC experience......

i wanted to buy my first computer and had a freind in sales and a
freind in parts working at CDC.......pretty good eh? I think I got a
fair price on my system and my other buddy was the one who built it
for me. The OWNER of the company (I kid you not) insisted that he put
a printer cable in knowing FULL WELL that it wouldn't work. My buddy
had to sneak that cable out at a later time and place the right one in
or else my printer would have never worked and I would have went
through major hassles. I still to this day don't know why the owner
would do that but I can only imaginewhat else he's done to other
customers.

From that sytem i bought my motherboard and monitor went within 2
years, Fighting 100 ethiopians for the last chicken would have been
easier than getting any kind of warrentee from them. I just cut my
losses and now enjoy bashing them whenever I can.

Exactly. Junk...you hit the nail right on the head.

I was the unhappy owner of a Pro-View monitor bought from them that
lasted all of 3 months. Brought it back to them and literally had to
argue with nearly half the service department before they gave me a new
monitor (they said something like a 4-6 week wait while they shipped the
monitor back to the manufacturer...I think not!). This replacement
lasted around a year and a half until it started doing many of the
similar things the first one did. Took it back and was informed that
since they had replaced it once, my warranty was no longer valid (this
is NOT what I was told when I bought it). Bottom line, stay the hell
away from Batista and his shitty products.

I actually had a similar experience.
I bought an Orchestra monitor (digital) from them.
It lasted about 6 months. I brought it back and swapped it for an
identical model. That lasted for 3 months. Brought it back and was told
that the monitor was no longer stalked, and i could wait 6-8 weeks for
repair. I told them to forget that and give me an equivalent
monitor. The guy hands me a similar monitor, promising me that its
digital. I take it home (it was used), plug it in, and o/c no digital
onscreen controls! I take it back, and they refuse to replace it on the
grounds i accepted the trade! They also told me that that particular
monitor was not covered by any warranty!

Needless to say i was rather pissed.
Ironically, that monitor has lasted for 5 years and is still my only
display.

And for anyone who doesn't believe it, CDC packages crap in a metal box,
and sells it at a seemingly low price. They use the crappiest parts they
can find to build value-oriented, unstable systems. The only parts that
work from the original system i bought from them were the keyboard and the
speakers.

The azen ram they use is great. It has a lifetime warranty and Azen will
talk to any end users. As for the rest of the parts, I have to agree.

Is this the same guy that ran Computer Clinic back when. Man, I had a few
laughable experiences with that goof back on Notre Dame. The name sure
sounds familiar.

No argument from me on previous posts.... just one thing:
"Computer Clinic" Portage Ave and Evanson is NOT part of the evil enpire.
That location was bought outright and has been under *much better*
management
for several years.. although I still hear of people who don't realize, there
is a huge difference.

I met Tony Batista on Notre Dame, and several of his former customers from
other locations, and other business names. Haven't bought from him, in many
years.
Remain shocked that the monitor I bought way back when, now retired,
actually *still works*.
I suspect he'd be shocked by that, too.
