I have a problem and hope someone can help this 70 year old numpty.

I put my laptop (windowsXP ) back to factory settings using Files and
Settings transfer Wizard to back up my files onto a USB memory stick..No
problem there. I have done it once before with no problems,
But on trying to reinstall the back up files the wizard kept on asking for
disc 1. and would not use the file on the memory stick. The file is a Dat
File USMT2IMG
I would not be worried but I have lost some photos of my four year old grand
daughter. The rest of the files Iam not bothered about.

Is it possible to retrive the photos at all?

Regards
Bill

By default the files and setting transfer wizard will back up the
standard folders including Fonts, My Documents, My Pictures,
C:\Documents And Settings, etc. You can also specify to include any
"custom defined" folders you wish to add to the list.

Hello TechGuru the file size is 3.13 GB. and you are right. My mistake
using a USB memory stick.
As for the Dat file I would asume the pics I need are in there some where.

Bill.

I think your only choice is to try saving your settings again, and then
afterwards you can replace the .DAT file just created with the one you
saved
on the flash drive, and try restoring settings from that.

Yeah not crazy about the method of backup. I have a spare hd on one machine
and make monthly backups. Another machine i copy files to a dvdrw.

Fixed it. Just kept on fiddling until the Data file transferred over with
Files and Settings transfer Wizard.

Most of us use Nero - not the burning ROM, but the fiddle around method.

Adios
