Download test speed issues.

A little over a week ago I switched to shaw high speed (better price & high
speed service from previous provider). Anyway I was conducting download
speed tests the other day & I am confounded on the results. I have four pc's
behind a Ovislink sr-600 router. The pc that I have the routers software on
gets consistent 8.mbps download speeds from Brandon server and ping time is
in the 30ms range. The other three pc's struggle and get anywhere from 1.2
to over 4. mbps and that can always vary. If I do internal transfers of
large files between all pc's I have no problems (speeds are super great.)
I forgot to mention that I have a netgear 4 port switch in the mix however I
ruled that out as an issue As I connected my slowest "download" pc directly
to the router with no change in the results. this issue has me perplexed.
When I first got shaw I was getting the same download speed on my "slow" pc
as I am getting on the fastest one.

try another router...preferrably one with dd-wrt firmware...see if any
change...then get back to us

another possible problem is the other pcs have a virus or spyware or
rootkit or other crap on them slowing the connection....try this for a
test....download the ubuntu live cd and boot up the slow pcs with
that...then do the speed tests

I doubt that I have virus or spyware or rootkit or other crap on them. I
run a lot of software to prevent that. I am downloading ubuntu live & will
try that later. If anything it should be interesting to play with that. I
sort of suspect the router is throttling back for some reason or other on
the "slow" pc's.

I tried the Ubuntu live cd, however I was running it from the cd and when I
tried the speedtest I needed flash 7. now if I am running off the cd where
is flash going to install? On a side note I was always interested in fooling
around with ubuntu.I am going to find a pc to install it on & play further.

Again I figure the router is throttling the downloads on the other Pc's. All
upload tests are the same. I still get respectable (from what I had before)
downloads, however the fast pc is still miles ahead of the rest when it
comes to downloads.

I think I found out the problem as all pc's are testing the same now. I
properly configured my port forwarding in the router software.
