This weekend MTS did something with their servers that caused Raspppoe to
stop working with Win2000 in some areas of the city.
She was forced to go back to Enternet. I am not farmiliar with Enternet as i
use WinXP and pppoe and previously only used Raspppoe with Win2000.
Anyway , she wants to make Enternet connect at startup and isnt sure how.
The Enternet webpage says to go into Enternet Properties and select
"AutoConnect". However, her AutoConnect option is greyed out and you cannot
select it.
Also, when Enternet is installed, Windows 2000 seems to 'freezeup' at
bootup for about 20 seconds. Basically, during this time you cant open
control panel, or connect to the internet, or do anything other than open
windows explorer . Raspppoe didnt do this.
We disabled the DHCP and DNS services, but doesnt help.
Thanks in advance.

You need to set an IP address on the ethernet adapter (eg 192.168.0.1).

I have it on good authority that RASPPPOE will be working again tomorrow.

What is Raspppoe??
I am having a hard time connecting to my email out here in Beausejour using
enternet. I click on "Get Message" after Enternet is supposedly running and it
can't/won't accept my login/password and make the connection.

I kill and re-start the Netscape Messenger (and sometimes even the Enternet)
several times until it finally decides to connect.
Is this an authetification problem on MTS's end ? Or is there something I need
to re-set.

Everything was OK until a couple of weekends ago when MTS made some changes and
I could not logon until I change my
user name to "@res1.mts.net"

thanks, Mike

Rasppoe is a fantastic pppoe protocal written specifically for Windows 2000
(it will work on other OS as well). Extremely small 'dialer' compared to
Enternet.

Most people i know have been having similar email problems for the past few
months. You are not alone. Mine has been better lately.

You can read more about Raspppoe here.

That's a bummer, wonder why.

Entered a fixed ip, but there is still a huge delay after bootup.

Be careful here, because you actually have 2 adapters: 1 physical one (your
NIC card) and one virtual one (Your enternet PPPOE virtual adapter). Since
MTS uses static IP (which may change at a later date, but for right
now....), use your MTS assigned IP to your virtual adapter, and a
192.168.0.x for your physical. This turns off DHCP essentially, which is
what causes the delay in bootup.

As an alternative, you can actually disable DHCP in the services (note that
I have never done this, as I have never needed to since I did the stuff
above)

Actually, we disabled the DHCP service first. This didnt work... Then we
entered the ip address, that didnt work either.
It's weird how this delay doesn't occur when using Raspppoe, even without a
fixed ip.
