There was a terrible restaurant fire this afternoon at "Bengal".
Unfortunately, 20 firefighters were overcome with injuries stemming
from smoke or heat.

How do you feel about the reduction in the manpower in the WPFD?

I opposed it originally.  Never cut public safety.  Cut library and schools instead.  Politicians never have the sense or integrity to do what is needed.

Cut library if anything, the schools are already being hit terribly hard
due to the 10 million dollar debt they've accumulated. Teaching the
children of our city is much more important than a library that few people
go to. In the age of technology, libraries are almost obsolete anyway.
Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, the amount of people who even care
to read a book on their own free will is greatly dwindling.

I heard that 25 firefighters were injured (yesterday) with smoke
inhalation or heat exhaustion.
My thoughts and prayers are with them and their families.

I hope the new city "grant writer" can find public and private grant
money to restore fire prevention to school children and neighborhood
groups. And hopefully money can be found to restore the 9
firefighters that were fired due to the budget shortfall. Maybe the
new 0.25% sales tax hike can generate some of this revenue to bring
back teh fire dept (and the police dept) to 1980 to 2008 staffing
levels.

regards,
