Thanks to everyone who came out to the Weinland Park Community Meeting tonight. It was a great meeting, full of passion and possibility!

As promised, Rory Krupp and I are following up on the parking issue.

It's truly critical to participate in the process and provide feedback. The city is very serious about parking and we need to advocate for our neighbors and neighborhood through the process.

See also attached to help guide through the information.

Some quick thoughts:
*We are in this together as neighbors
*We live in a historic district planned as a streetcar suburb that had twice the density as we currently have - parking is only one piece of transit and access to opportunity
*We believe all our streets are for the people and understand that not everyone can afford a car or permits
*We have asked the city to subsidize parking for income-qualified residents in the past and suggest renewing this request with vigor
*We are going to see more development pressures on 5th Ave, 4th Street, 11th Ave, Summit and these pressures from businesses, *visitors* on OSU game day, State Fairgrounds and of course High Street development will put pressure on all residential streets.

Providing feedback to the city and through stakeholder meetings will be essential in doing what's best for our neighborhood. This city's timeline is aggressive

  • Community Meeting #1 – April 4th
  • Planning Summits – April 7th & 10th
  • Community Meeting #2 – mid to late May
  • City Council Consideration – May/June
  • Program & Enforcement Begins – November
The attached plan is at least the 3rd version of a plan from the city that we've been through in the last year or so Here's the feedback we'd compiled to the LAST version and worth considering how the new version addresses or doesn't these recommendations and if there are issues not yet considered.

Specifically, at issue is the importance parking subsidy to vulnerable populations and the boundaries or zones of parking protection. There are likely many other issues to consider and questions to ask. Please attend the meetings above to get more informed and ask questions, as well as provide feedback to the city

I welcome comments, as does Rory, so that we can write up a revised set of recommendations and areas to push on with City Council and other stakeholders, as best we can.

Sending fabulous energy!

Warmly,

Evelyn Van Til
